Trunk or Treat

The Orange County Ronald McDonald House Trunk or Treat is a FRIENDraiser for families staying in the House and the surrounding Batavia Street neighbors. The families in the House have children that are away from their own homes on Halloween. Trunk or treat is a way for families with critically ill children to get outside on Halloween and have some fun in a safe environment during this stressful time.

Let’s hear is for the biggest and best Trunk or Treat event to date! With the participation of 30 Trunks and 100 volunteers, it’s no wonder our House had such a great event.

For those of you that do not know, Trunk or Treat is a Halloween themed event hosted by the Orange County Ronald McDonald House. Volunteers are encouraged to decorate the trunks of their cars in fun/ spooky ways, sometimes even adding a game! Then families staying at the House, as well as those in the community, are invited to “trunk or treat” from the cars.

The purpose of this event is to have a safe space for OCRMH families to enjoy Halloween, while away from home. Trunk or Treat started as a small college-student run event and has expanded into a multi-level community FRIENDraiser. Some of this year’s newest elements included a haunted bus (sponsored and managed by Park West), close up magic by Billy Bonkers Magic, a photo wall with spooktacular props (made and managed by the OCRMH Club at El Dorado High School), 3 costume contests, a best trunk contest, therapy animals, henna tattoos, and a special guest appearance by the Anaheim Ducks mascot: Wild Wing! These extra activities made the event all the more special for those who attended.

For many of our OCRMH families attending Trunk or Treat, it is a night to dress up and forget the stressors of doctors’ visits and hospital tests. At this event kids just get to be kids! As an organization we are proud to host such a positive event that can make such a difference in the families we serve. Looking forward to next year as this event continues to grow bigger and better!
